Sam Rayburn Tollway Fourth Lane

Sam Rayburn Tollway Expansion Project

Improvements to Sam Rayburn Tollway (SRT) include constructing an additional lane in each direction, in the center median, along the entire 26-miles of the SRT, from west of Denton Tap Road to U.S. 75. Ramp improvements will also be made between the Dallas North Tollway (DNT) and Preston Road to separate traffic for motorists exiting from northbound SRT to Preston Road and motorists entering SRT from DNT. Auxiliary lanes will be added in various locations along the corridor to improve ramp merging areas.

As part of the North Texas Tollway Authority’s (NTTA) public involvement and environmental analysis processes, two community meetings were held in February 2017. In July 2017, a Public Hearing was held to present the project and results of the environmental analysis, and to receive formal comments from those in attendance. Comments were accepted until August 9, 2017.

The presentation shown during the Public Hearing is available here. View the draft schematic maps here.

All comments were reviewed and responded to by NTTA. That information, a Public Hearing Summary and other project details are included in the Sam Rayburn Tollway Fourth Lane Widening Categorical Exclusion Documentation.

Construction began January 2, 2019. The fourth lanes between the DNT in Frisco and US 75 in McKinney are now open to traffic.

Business Information Group (B.I.G.) Meetings

NTTA’s Business Information Group (B.I.G.) meetings are designed to keep business owners and managers current with progress on the SRT Fourth Lane Project. NTTA personnel and consultants, and sometimes representatives from our partners, provide brief presentations about the projects during the sessions.

For this project, four groups have been created, based on geographical location within this project area. They include:

Vista Ridge Area

North Carrollton/The Colony

Preston Road Area

Coit/Custer Roads

All four groups met in early 2019.  For details, or if you would like to join a B.I.G., please contact us at 972-628-3134 or

See our monthly Corridor Progress Report for the latest information.
