Safety Information

Safety is always NTTA’s first priority. In February 2016, NTTA opened the state-of-the-art Safety Operations Center, a 6,400-square-foot space where dispatchers monitor the status of the organization’s roads via nearly 2,000 cameras. The Safety Operations Center watches over the roads 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to address roadway issues and assist drivers, public safety officers, employees and others in need. SOC is part of NTTA’s intelligent transportation system, which also includes pavement weather sensors, mobile guardrail systems and overhead electronic signs to deliver safety alerts and messages.

The Roadside Safety Services program was developed to keep NTTA customers safe by assisting stranded motorists and providing protection and keeping traffic flowing smoothly at incident scenes, and helping during disasters, regional emergencies and evacuations.

NTTA has joined the Red Thumb movement – a safety campaign aimed at ending distracted driving – specifically, texting and driving – by encouraging drivers to make some part of the their thumb red to remind them to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road at all times.
