Government Affairs

The mission of the Government & Legislative Affairs team is to realize a significant impact in advancing the strategic interest of NTTA through collaborative efforts with local, state and federal officials; by providing support regarding relevant policy, legislative and regulatory initiatives; and by advocating for the best interests of NTTA customers and stakeholders.

Local Affairs

Staff proactively engages local officials to meet the North Texas region’s need for transportation infrastructure through improved mobility and by providing choices to drivers. Responsiveness to constituents’ concerns and queries is a part of NTTA’s local outreach.

State Affairs

NTTA joins with local and state elected officials to develop NTTA’s goals for each legislative session. Through communication and shared ideas, NTTA works to advance transportation initiatives with tolling partners, including the Texas Department of Transportation, tolling authorities across the state and toll road developers.

Federal Affairs

NTTA monitors and engages in the development of all federal legislative initiatives that may impact the NTTA. NTTA’s focus on federal initiatives has grown in recent years following the delivery of high-profile North Texas transportation projects developed in partnership with TxDOT. The role of federal regulatory agencies in toll project delivery has also grown, as the national transportation funding shortfall has forced policy makers to look for funding outside of traditional revenue sources, such as the motor fuels tax.

In 2010, NTTA was awarded one of only two federal TIGER grants in the State of Texas for the delivery of the President George Bush Turnpike Western Extension (formerly State Highway 161).
