The President George Bush Turnpike: Eastern Extension

The President George Bush Turnpike Eastern Extension is a proposed 9.9-mile segment from State Highway (SH) 78 in Garland, east to Interstate Highway (IH) 30. The proposed six-lane toll road will pass through Garland, Sachse and Rowlett and will include a one-mile bridge over Dallas' Lake Ray Hubbard.

The Eastern Extension, which is divided into five sections, 28 through 32,
has undergone a reevaluation of the Final Environmental Impact Statement and Section 4(f) evaluation to address design changes made since the project received environmental clearance in 2005. The project received final environmental clearance from the Federal Highway Administration in July 2008, giving approval to begin construction.

A groundbreaking for Section 30, from north of the future Merritt Road to south of Main Street, took place in August 2008, and construction began in October 2008.
There has been extensive coordination with the neighboring communities for right of way acquisition and with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the construction of a bridge over Lake Ray Hubbard and a major interchange at IH 30.

All five sections of the Eastern Extension have an anticipated opening date of fourth quarter 2011.

On January 29, 2008, the North Texas Tollway Authority held a public meeting to update interested residents on the President George Bush Turnpike Eastern Extension project. A project information meeting took place on November 20, 2008, in Rowlett to update interested members of the public on construction activities.

Information presented at the meetings included the original project schematic and a revised schematic for affected locations. To see a copy of the original schematic, please click here. To see a copy of the revised schematic for affected locations, please click here.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE MEETING HELD IN ROWLETT
NTTA officials met with the general public at Rowlett City Hall on October 8, 2009 to provide an update on construction acitivities along the PGBT Eastern Extension and to answer any questions. View the presentation.
