Alan E. Sims Dallas County Appointee

Alan Sims was appointed City Manager of Cedar Hill in March 2000. From 1986 to 2000, he held various positions with the City of Overland Park, Kansas, most recently serving as Deputy City Manager. Mr. Sims received both his bachelor's degree and his master's degree in public administration from the University of Kansas, earning the latter in 1988.
Currently, Mr. Sims serves on the North Texas Tollway Authority Board of Directors, is a charter member of the Cedar Hill Rotary Club and completed his term as president of the North Texas City Management Association in 2006. He also is a member of Lions Club and serves on the board of directors of the Cedar Hill Chamber of Commerce and the Trinity Church and Christian School Board of Trustees.
Mr. Sims' previous civic involvement in the Kansas City area included board memberships on the Johnson County Community College Foundation, Temporary Lodging for Children, Overland Park Rotary Club (Vocational Service Chairman), Lakeview Village Retirement Community, Mount Caramel Redevelopment Corporation, United Way of Johnson County, Overland Park Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Columbia Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
His professional memberships include the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and the Texas City Management Association (TCMA). He is past president of the Kansas University City Managers and Trainees (KUCIMATs). From 1995 to 1997, he served as president of the Kansas City Chapter of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators.
